[FAR-West] Mike vs. Mic

Grammatically, I have to agree with Chico.
I have seen a growing number of places using "Mic" but hadn't understood
why, since it's the LESS flexible word. "Mike" can be used as a verb or
a noun, but "Mic" can only be a noun, so you would still have to use
constructions like:
"Use this mic when you're miking the open mic" which is just silly and
wrong...
It's bad enough that English attacks and devours words from other
languages without regard for the results, but apparently it's gotten to
the point of eating its own young, linguistically.
Mic is one, count it, one letter easier to text or type. If you are
reducing the world to three-character txt spk, that's your choice, but
really...it would be nice if we tried to make the world of folk MORE
comprehensible, not less..."Mic" becomes an "insider word" whose meaning
and pronunciation are known to some, and inobvious to others, and the
ones in the know can look down their noses at the folks who try to rhyme
it with "flick".
And yes, this has to do with music, in a weird way, because I was just
in a discussion of whether song lyrics should follow proper grammar, or
usage grammar, which are often not the same things. Oddly enough, I was
on the side of common usage grammar at the time, but I have my limits.
Grrr...
