My list of legendary women singers is soooo long... but I couldn't 
resist adding these few to the list:

Valya Balkanska of Bulgaria (it was her voice that was sent up on the 
gold disc on the Voyager way back when to represent "the voice of 
humanity")
M.S. Subbulakshmi one of the greatest South Indian classical and film 
singers of all time!
Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon, founding director of Sweet Honey in the Rock
Nada Mamula, one of Bosnia/Serbia's greatest voices of Sevdah
Cansever, in my opinion Macedonia's most astonishing Romani woman 
singer, now living in Turkey
Amalia Rodriguez, the original queen of Fado
