[FA Worldmusic] surge of diplomacy + paper on

In the case of Iraq we wrecked the (albeit iniquitous) social and political
infrastructure so we are ethically, morally and if there were laws governing
such things, legally responsible to address the situation until some sort of
arrangement is achieved even if it is a Northern Ireland-type partition
situation. Whether this will be achieved by the deft and unflagging
expertise of the US remains to be seen.

It was politicians from Northern Ireland and South Africa who recently met
with leaders of Iraq's Sunni and Shia factions for talks in Finland. It
takes one to know one. Let those with experience mediate. Expertise over
explosives.

I like your idea, Marco, but who will ensure the safety of these unarmed
volunteers? Can we get KBR et. al. to pony up the money they stole? Part of
this can go towards a MidEast Festival of Peace in the Desert, with those
who have experienced violence in some way (Emmanuel Jal, Tinariwen, Abdel
Gadir Salim, MIA)?

These are fine and dandy thoughts about what South West Asia needs.
But do we wonder to ask them, not the governments but the people of  
the region what they prefer and want.
Do the solutions have to come from US?
