Wanted to make sure those of you going to WOMEX knew about this session. It
may apply more specifically to artists and agents then presenters in the US,
but it may be instructive for NA Presenters to also understand the parallel
issues now happening in the EU, and perhaps exchanging ideas about how to
address them.

Subject: Networking on the Visa Crisis

Dear All,

Michel Winter and WOMEX are planning an emergency meeting on visa
matters, which are becoming a very serious issue for all of us, working
with artists from non-Western countries.

You can find hereby a short description of the session and attached a
longer description in English and French, please forward it to all
persons who might be interested.

One very important point is point 5 in the pdf attached:
Evaluate the global business volume (in Europe) generated by the
artists in a given period. Everybody4s contribution is needed.

Thank you -

See you all very soon!

Christine

WOMEX Conference Session 4
Winter, Michel (France/Belgium)
Thursday 16:30 - 17:30 Ronda Room

Emergency Meeting: Networking on the Visa Crisis

The session will examine the increasing difficulties facing European
promoters and booking agencies in obtaining visas for artists from
non-EU countries. What are the potential dangers in the current
situation? In what way do the procedures differ from country to
country? Why are visas often rejected even when correct procedures are
followed? Do these rejections and the increasingly exorbitant visa
prices of some countries conform to international law and the European
Human Rights Charter? What could be done on a political level and how
can it be achieved? What are the real (and hidden) costs of staging
European tours by non-EU artists? Booking agents, promoters and
artists with stories to share are most welcome.
