Glenn,
You will no doubt be dissapointed to find out that the US is not a free
market economy. A variety of government imposed tariffs, antitrust laws,
safety standards and other regulations and rules are in place across all
industries and countries. The fact is that a mixed economy "is the preferred
basis of socioeconomic policy for most countries and political parties" * in
the world and "the U.S. is considered a mixed economy" * - as in - "a mix of
private economic freedom (including privately owned industry) intermingled
with centralized economic planning (which may include intervention for
environmentalism and social welfare, or state ownership of some of means of
production)". *

I guess in your Friedman-to-the-max universe, any form of public regulation
and control is abhorent. Thankfully though, that is not the way the real
world works.

Where's the balance?!!! This is a typical Bill Moyers full-court press
piece where only one side of the story is told.

I didn't hear one single point of view from the "other side" of the
argument. Did they interview anyone? Maybe Bill didn't think any of us
want to hear another argument on the issue - to be able to make up our own
minds?

All this drivel about there being any need for any FCC or other
organization overseeing any media control in the public. Nobody is forced
to watch the same five TV channels for their news & information - Most
Americans have access to thousands of sources via internet and cable TV.

Let the market (ie. the people) control where media control goes. We
don't need the government to get involved in ANY of this. Let the people
decide through media usage what the market will present.

In case any of my American brothers and sisters on this list are not
following this story (and responding accordingly). Please watch this
Bill
Moyers clip while you are enjoying your Thanksgiving weekend. And happy
turkey or Tofurky eating to you all.
