Angelique Kidjo > After the Tonight Show Comments Hello, I am a fan of
Jay Leno's beginning of the show monologue. I need the clever humour and
sometimes dopey laughs. I caught the credit announcing Angelique Kidjo's
performance, which caused me to tune on/off after the monologue instead
of my routine exit. Angelique Kidjo filled the "end of the show
musical entertainment" spot with no seat on the couch, meaning "the
artist and music without a voice." I was hoping this was an opportunity
for people to tune into world music, and if anybody could do it Angelique
could, but . . . oh, this was so disappointing. The music and
performance was un-notable, just another "the show is over, we are
giving some artist some time". Where was Angelique's magic and her great
connection with the audience . . . it was missing in action ! She
performed with Ziggy Marley who seemed to be more prominently featured.
And I am sure, most people thought they were listening to reggae and an
extension of Ziggy's music passed down through Ziggy's great musical
genius dad Bob Marley, all which most identify with and are familar
with. To connect and reach more people who are new to this music, people
need to get to know the artist and their music. The artist and music
were misrepresented by lack of voice. Nothing new, nothing learned,
nothing gained . . . because no one was able to tell. This made me
realize why some artists are so demanding and finicky, those points were
needed here to "sell" the artist and the music. Very bad presentation.
I must admit, I do think she was a bit nervous, which is quite surprising
for Angelique Kidjo. She didn't seem to be able to turn on to this
performance. I can't believe I am/can say that. I don't totally blame
the artist and their management because they were give that spot. On the
hand, to work that spot: perhaps an introductory voice before the music,
and some of that periodically. So easy for me to say, huh (lol) ! Also,
could I have expected too much from one performance ? I will stop here,
however, I could go on and on. LouiseAfropop NYC Eventshttp://afropop.org/event/nycEvents@Afropop.org

>Dear Mr. Romero,
>
>My name is Danny Catalanotto and I am the music minister at Grace
Episcopal Church in Silver Spring, Maryland. We are searching for a
local World Music group that does sacred music for a special concert
here at Grace for our concert series. Our first choice would be East
African, but we will consider others. If you could e-me with the
names of any local performers you might know of that would be great!
>Many thanks!
