The Canadian Folk Music Awards
committee announced today that the 2007 CFMA
ceremony will take place Saturday, December 1st
at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in
Gatineau, Quebec. The bilingual event will be
hosted by Shelagh Rogers of CBC Radio Ones
Sounds Like Canada and Benoit Bourque, a renowned
figure on the Quebec traditional music scene who
is known for his work with the Juno Award-winning
ensemble Le Vent du Nord.
The Canadian Folk Music Awards
recognize Canadas outstanding writers, producers
and performers of folk music and the artists who
are expanding the genre in innovative and
exciting ways. The awards also celebrate the
magnificent diversity of Canadas musical
heritage from the musical traditions of
Aboriginal Canada to Celtic, Acadian and
traditional Quebecois styles, singer-songwriter
music, blues, bluegrass and old-tyme country and
the myriad of global traditions brought to Canada
by each new wave of immigration. Whats more,
the CFMAs provide an opportunity to draw
Canadians attention to the depth and breadth of
folk music in Canada.
