[FA Worldmusic] touring

Hi Marguerite,

A nice idea, and one that I would love to see work. Nonetheless I need to
clarify a couple of things:

Lila Wallace put that program together with input from the field...and as
much as I'd be honored to think they solicited my opinion on this
subject..they didn't. I really didn't have anything to do with this Lila
Wallace program....and although Earshot Jazz was a grant recipient, I don't
believe they were asked for input on putting the program together either.
Sarah Warner might have been, maybe you could ask her.

That program was celebrating the indigenous US artform we call jazz, which
makes the premise for that program have a certain specific appeal in this
country. Whether or not we can identify a foundation that will be interested
in making a similar commitment to "world music" (ie "music from out there",
as some like to define it...) remains to be seen.

As for an organization that could help research such funding, I continue to
hope that the World Music Coalition will be able to identify a fundraiser
interested in developing these ideas.
