Just to follow up on Evangeline's props, I know Orquesta Tipica Fernando
Fierro very well, and they are great-- seen them a few times in their home
of Buenos Aires where they are an entrenched part of the young Tango scene,
and its always wonderful for me to see young and enthusiastic Tango fans out
to hear the music, and not just watch dance or the spectacle of generic
Tango that happens a lot in the states...
They've also traveled twice to Chile where they were a huge success as well,
to the same demographic, performing at the International Festival of Tango
in Valparaiso to all the Tango faithful, but as well as a more "indie-rock"
club in Santiago which was way over sold-out to very un-tipica Tango
audiences...
"tango-punk" it is not really, although it may look that way with the
dreaded bandoneon players, dirty stage banter, tripped out lighting, and
complete attitude... its really just some damn good Tango music, some of the
best around....
If anyone wants some more info on them, just write...
