Gvkhan Birben - Hamsheni singer from Black Sea region
Anouar Brahem with Barbaros Erkose and Kudsi Erguner - LovelyTunisian-Turkish collaborative recordings on ECM
Nejati Celik - perhaps finest Ottoman style oudist
Mercan Dede/Arkin Allen - sufi trance
Senem Diyici Quartet - Turkish world fusion
Orhan Hakalmaz - happen to be listening to him right now - severalwonderful recordings
Istanbul Oriental Ensemble featuring Burhan Vgal - reputation as topTurkish Roma percussionist, partly a result ofexposure from world tours
Kazim Koyuncu - remarkable Laz artist who died way too young - he'sone of my favorites
Layco Tayfa no longer together but was killer Turkish/Roma/Jazz. Twocd's on Doublemoon
Erkan Opur - claim to fame is invented the classical fretless guitar. Many fine instrumental recordings - check Kalan catalogue
Orhan Osman - top bouzouki player in Turkey. Check out his playingon Smadj's SOS project.
Ibrahim Ozgur - Turkish tango artist from the 1930's - highlyrecommended on oriente.de
Talip Ozkan - plays the national instrument of Turkey, the balagma(saz), as well as anybody. Has an American release "The Dark Fire" onLaswell's Axiom label.
Siwan Perwer - Known throughout Europe as "The voice of Kurdistan".Has been living in exile since 1976.
Fuat Saka - compelling Laz singer and multi-instrumentalist
Husnu Senlendirici - Roma clarinetist, former leader of Laco Tayfa whohas gone smoother and poppy and become huge in Turkey
Selim Sessler - my favorite Turkish Roma clarinetist, terrific live -Catch him in documentary: "Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul"
Smadj - Producer of choice for traditional based Turkish artists whowant to contemporize their sound - think of a Turkish 'Bill Laswell' .Dig his SOS project on Doublemoon.
Omar Faruk Tekbilek - one of best known Turkishmulti-instrumentalists, lives in States
Okay Temiz - veteran Turkish jazz, used to play with Don Cherry
