If you have not heard yet, there is a no-registration-required world music
preconference at the Arts Presenters conference (Hilton Hotel;
www.artspresenters.org) on January 19, from 9 am - 12:30 pm and from 4-5:30 pm
organized by the North American World Music Coalition (the long break in the
middle is because of official conference events... like the conference
opening, etc.).

I am facilitating one of the sessions as an open discussion (the attendees are
the panel) and I was wondering if people here can suggest some of the
sub-topics as well as help me identify some "audience plants" (folks who have
experience on the topic at hand). I want it to be a dynamic discussion with
those in the room sharing their expertise, answering each others questions,
and brainstorming new approaches. Here is the blurb:

<<Digital Explosion and Live Performance: Strategies for Linking World Music
Tours, Records, and Fans in the New Economy

When the popularity of illegal downloads emerged a few years ago, there were
articles about the end of the music industry. Yet music has not only survived,
it has thrived with the emergence of download sharing, free blogs, and social
networking sites, though the financial model is still not clear. Many asked
"What will the new model be?" The answer is there is no single model. We must
all pursue several paths simultaneously to reach increasingly dispersed niche
audiences. This open discussion brings together world music presenters,
agents, artists, and record labels about how they are using new technologies
to reach their audiences and fans in new ways.>>

If you or someone you know has some experience/ideas on this topic (blogs,
MySpace, YouTube, MP3s and live concerts, live streaming, wiki on your
presenter website, using tech to collaborate between labels/artists/venues,
etc.) and will be in NYC on January 19 (regardless of whether you planned to
attend Arts Presenters), please plan on being there. And shoot me an email
with your thoughts/innovations on related topics. Even if you cannot attend,
I'd be glad to introduce your questions and ideas.

Much thanks!
