The studio I use, and usually recommend, is:

MPI STUDIO @ Westbeth
55 Bethune St. (corner of Washington St.)
(212) 243-6842

This place is in the lower West Village (below the Meat Market 
district, all the west near the Hudson River). It's owned & operated by 
a collective of young drummers, who are the sons of some very famous 
jazz drummers. They charge $60/hour for recording (incl. engineer), or 
$50/hr. if you purchase a block of 10 hours or more.

Hey Big Apple listies..I am looking for an NYC recording studio on very
short notice (in the next week). It needs to be full service and top
quality, but of course hoping to pay somewhat less than Record Plant 
prices
and experience with exotic instrumentation would be a definite plus.
