Dear friends,

I know the confirmed information on the hommage to Ali Farka Toure,
organized by the Fondation Ali Farka Toure and the Ministry of
Culture in Mali, has been a long time coming , and will possibly
arrive too late for many of you who wished to participate or attend
to arrange your agendas to be able to do so...I am sorry if that is
the case, and we'll do our best to make sure you have the information
annd other materials to be able to report on the events , or at least
"feel" like you were there with us. Hopefully, in the future we'll
manage to get events organized with more lead time .

Below is a sketch of the final program of events as they stand now :

- Friday, March 02:

* at 4:30: preview of a photo exhibit featuring Ali at the Centre
Internatioonal des Conferences or Palais de la Culture, presided by
the Minister of Culture
* at 20:30: Gala at Hotel Salam under the patronage of the Prime
Minister (entertainment by selected Malian artists of international
scope; artists (friends of Ali) from Europe/U.S.A. are welcome to
join the stage for a single show or jam session, or just to express
their friendship)

- Saturday, March 03:

* free public concert in front of Ali's house in Lafiabougou
(afternoon and night)

- Sunday, March 04:

* lecture (and expression of friendship) on the life and works of Ali
(Place TBD)

- Monday and Tuesday, March 05-06:

* trip to Niafunke

- Wednesday, March 7:

* morning: prayers, reading of Coran, and visit to/meditation on the
tomb of Ali
* afternoon: expressions of friendship by the populations of Niafunke
* night: concert by the group of the friends of Ali who played at
the Festival in the Desert.

- Thursday March 8 and following days:

return trip to Bamako and departure of international guests

I will be leaving for Mali early next week (now things are finally
moving, they are moving FAST!) and might have irregular access to
internet, but will try to check e-mail at least daily. I can also be
reached on either of the cell phones listed below (French only as of
Tues. Feb. 20).

I look forward to hearing back from you, and hope that some of you
will be able to join us, in spite of this late confirmation ...We
know you'll be there in spirit !

All my best,
Deborah Cohen
