Hi,

I don't know how many of you saw the article in the NY Times that mentioned
a proposed rise in INS fees but I caught it and wrote to Jim at APAP and
here is his answer. We need to keep an eye on this and help in any way we
can

Robyn Boyd

Robyn,

Yes APAP is planning on mobilizing on this issue. Let me give you where we
are right now.

The CIS proposal would hike the I-129 from $190 to $320.

Director of USCIS Gonzalez said that "the fee increase is for the growing
cost of keeping our national immigration service secure and efficient."

We have been in touch with Congress and have been informed that Senators
Leahy and Kennedy and Congressman Conyers and Lofgren have weighed in and
urged CIS not to implement the new fees until the Judiciary committees had
an opportunity to review the process.

It is posted on the Federal Registry and we are going to be asking folks to
weigh in with the negative impact this increase would pose soon so that CIS
knows how bad this is for the community. We will also be meeting with CIS
this month as well to push through that point.

I will email you shortly with an update and status.
Talk with you soon
