Hello. This is my first time to email you. I am Kazko Kawai of MENA
Music, which specializes in managing musicians from the Arab world. I
will have Omar Metioui's group in New York in this March to perform
Andalusian music. It is a short notice, but, if you are interested in
presenting this ensemble on East Coast or in Midwest, please let me know.
Omar Metioui is one of the leading Andalusian musicians in Morocco, and
has worked with Eduardo Paniagua and Luis Delgado of Spain for the last
two decades with CDs released from Pneuma and Sony Classical. Also, as a
musicologist, he has made tremendous efforts in preserving the Moroccan
Andalusian music by publishing a Nouba Istihlal with transcription and
notation from Center for Andalusian Music in Seville in 2002, and
performing the complete Nouba Istihlal in concerts (one of his on-going
projects). Recently, he started working with Begona Olavide of Spain to
integrate the Christian and Muslim music from Medieval Andalusia on
period instruments. This will mark the first concert of Andalusian Sufi
music in the USA. The ensemble will perform Andalusian pieces from both
secular and Sufi music in the concert, but with different instrumentation
according to the tradition. Available dates are: March 13, 14 & 16, 2008
