[FA Worldmusic] Crossing into Mainstream

Yes my man Andy Morgan is doing a fantastic job heading up the good ship
Tinariwen. They have also been befriended by U2 and mentioned by Bono and
Edge in a couple of recent interviews (and of course their long standing
relationship with Robert Plant is well known). Pertinent to the recent
discussions of the "world music" tag, Andy signed the band to an indie rock
label in the UK called Independiente (most notably known as the home of
Travis) and he has marketed them to the mainstream without going out of his
way to associate them with the term. That said, with an agencyy network that
includes Sasa in the UK and Eye For Talent over here, they are certainly
using the backbone of the world music community to help build their careers.

Exposure to a mainstream audience doesn't get any better than this:

Tinariwen will open for the Rolling Stones at Slane Castle (Ireland)
Saturday 18th August.

Congrats Tinariwen!

Desert bluesingly yours,

Dore
