I saw their set at SummerStage on Sunday, and that NYTimes description is apt...though more Black Eyed Peas and Ozo than Rage. Nacao Zumbi has the Rage comparison slot in my mind.
All the best,

AN INVITATION TO ALL PRESENTERS, ARTISTIC DIRECTORS AND TALENT BUYERS:
If you are near to the cities and venues listed below, please join us for
the phenomenal show that is AfroReggae, from Rio, Brazil. "If Rage against
the Machine could drum like Ozomatli, dance like the Black-Eyed Peas and
sing exuberant samba melodies and reggae tunes, America might have something
like AfroReggae" (New York Times) Please see www.myspace.com/afroreggae
AfroReggae is a social and cultural project against the exclusion,
inequality and stigma that overwhelm the favelas. From a turbulent
beginning in 1993 it now runs 60+ projects in Rio de Janeiro, founded
permanent cultural bases in four different favelas, and multiplies its
workshop programs across Brazil and in other countries.. Their phenomenal
story was told in the award-winning documentary Favela Rising (
www.favelarising.com)
We are booking April '08 and summer '08 tours and this is the perfect
opportunity to showcase the wonderful AfroReggae for you ! Come and see
