Dear FA-World Music Digest,
I am the publicist at S.O.B.'s (204 Varick St. NY, NY 10014) writing
to request the following events be listed in your FA-Worldmusic digest:
Monday April 30--Salsa Meets Jazz w/ The Bronx Horns and Randy Brecker
Salsa Meets Jazz is a monthly series that fuses two classic and
culturally historic genres of music bridging the gap between cultures
and proving that music truly is universal. The Bronx Horns, led by
Mitch Frohman and other mainstays of the Tito Puente Orchestra,
deliver a tight, swinging blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms. This month,
they will be accompanied by two-time Grammy winner Randy Brecker, who
is one of the most influential horns players today. (See attached
Press Release for more details)
Wednesday May 2--Action Afrobeat w/ The Aphrodesia, Asiko & Akoya
Ensembles
S.O.B.bs continues its rich musical tradition of live performance
with a night of Afrobeat, the energetic percussive music inspired by
the late legendary Fela Kuti. The night features three of the
hardest working, most creative Afrobeat ensembles playing today,
Aphrodesia, Asiko and Akoya. (See attached Press Release for more
details)
Wednesday May 9--Vusi Mahlasela
S.O.B.bs will take you a musical journey to South Africa with poet/
singer and political activist Vusi Mahlasela. An accomplished
guitarist, percussionist, composer, arranger, band leader and
performer, Mahlaselabs sound is a hybrid of folk, world, blues and
soul, one that connects South Africa's Apartheid-scarred past with
its promise for a better future. Vusibs latest album, Guiding
Star, the bulk of which was recorded on a farm in rural South Africa,
demonstrates his varied influences with guest appearances by Dave
Mathews, the Allman Brothersb Derek Trucks and Australian didgeridoo
star Xavier Rudd. (See attached Press Release for more details)
Thank you very much. I look forward to receiving the next FA-World
Music Digest newsletter. If you have any questions or need more
information, please feel free to contact me via email or phone at any
time.
Best Regards,
Alex Damashek
