Charlie,
Thanks for the unexpected post. I am by no means "exceptional." Look to many I admire - Jon Pareles with the NY Times for his brilliant coverage of New York's world music concerts, Afropop's great radio programs, KEXP's Jon Kertzer and his "Best Ambiance" and Darek Mazzone's "Wo Pop," Tom Frouge's http://www.radioio.com/radioioworld.php and so many more great world music radio stream djs including Delphine Blue and Rob Weisberg in the NY region.. and of course, the dedicated world music publicists including Dmitri Vietze - rockpaperscissors.biz, Mark Gorney, Carla Sacks -
The main reason I've decided to help WKCR's (Columbia University)"In All Languages" program is that I am convinced that the world music category is lost in a regrettable "niche" mentality. Most all world music fans don't realize is that in most all countries of origin, what we seem to understand as 'world music' is actually 'mainstream' music.
It's also bizarre to me that in New York, we don't have any real decent world music radio program! But we're lucky to have the streams above...
Let's see how this radio program progresses. And, I'm hopeful to be able to invite a few more 'movers and shakers' who have the word on the world.
I will make sure that the programs will be archived so anyone who should be sleeping at the hour will be able to access if inclined.
Thanks very much!
Evangeline
