Curumin played a show here on Friday night and they were hot. They were
several minutes into a cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" before I
recognized it. Even the cover of "Like a Virgin" was sufficiently
blenderized with Brazilian influences to sound good. Some things they
played didn't work for me, but 80% of the time, their music was
irresistible. A companion called it Brazilian techno, but that's only a
piece of it. Their sound is different than anything I've heard.

Rodrigo y Gabriela brought down the house last Thursday. They were jaw
dropping. I'd watched the DVD that comes with the English release of their
forthcoming US CD and knew basically what to expect. I think a wildly
receptive audience brought something extra out. They were amazing.

Aza had the misfortune of being scheduled in a small hall on
Saturday. They were away from the main venue due to rain, which was too
bad. The small crowd was treated to a wide range of entrancing and deftly
played Moroccan and North Africa music mixed with touches of jazz. At
times they reminded me of Oregon, but with more funk and less airy
noodling. Other times a touch of Tinariwen but more varied and
interesting. Highly recommended.

The Forrs for All show last Thursday was just plain fun. They had the hall
bouncing from beginning to end. I never thought I'd see hundreds of
twenty-somethings dancing to accordion music. But, it happened and they
were screaming for more.
