SHOWCASE CHANGE: ORANGE BLOSSOM - SHOWCASE DAYS - ANNOUNCEMENT: THE
WOMEX & WMCE TOP LABEL AWARDS - THE 'UN-FAIR' GUIDE

Dear WOMEXicans,

Only six weeks until WOMEX Sevilla! Here's the latest news.

SHOWCASE CHANGE: ORANGE BLOSSOM IS IN

Good news and bad news to report. The good is that Orange Blossom
(Algeria/Mexico/France) have just been added to the showcase
programme. The bad is that this is because Mabulu (Mozambique) had to
cancel. Orange Blossom are four musicians from different backgrounds
and cultures converging to create an amazing mix of European
electro-beats, West African polyrhythms, Arabic and Middle Eastern
melodies and all-stops-out rock. Laced with infectious Arabic
choruses, lifted by lush strings and tempered by dark, driving beats.
Sweet-smelling, street-smart dance music.

THE WOMEX & WMCE TOP LABEL AWARDS

A new Award, a new logo, a framed disc... In past years, together with
our partners the World Music Charts Europe, weve honoured chart-
topping world music CDs. This year weve decided to shift the
emphasis, awarding instead the labels themselves. In these challenging
times for music producers, we thought it right to highlight those
labels with the greatest chart success, making them the deserved
center of attention. And, thankfully, in our field chart and artistic
success so often go hand-in-hand.

How the selection is made: Since we are awarding chart success in
creative production, we are counting the work of A&R teams from
individual companies. Two or more labels in the same overall company
under one direction are counted together. Different, autonomous A&R
teams from different company locations are counted separately. In this
way, Crammed Discs and their sub-label Ziriguiboom are counted as one.
The World Music Network (The Rough Guides) and Riverboat are counted
as one, since all releases are created by the same team. But Virgin,
Real World and EMI, though the same overall parent or marketing
company, are counted separately, since they function as different
companies with different A&R teams. (The period covers the time since
the last WOMEX, 10/2005 until 9/2006.)

The WOMEX & World Music Charts Europe framed Award goes to each of the
top three world music labels. They are:

1) World Circuit
Chart-topping CDs: Cheikh Lt: Lamp Fall; Toumani Diabati & Symmetric
Orchestra: Boulevard de lIndipendance; Ali Farka Touri & Toumani
Diabati: In the Heart of the Moon

Here are this years remaining top-20 labels, each with their

Award logo on ads, in brochures, on CDs wherever theyd like to
advertise their accomplishment.

'Un'FAIR GUIDE

We've warned you in the past about a company in Austria who got hold
of our addresses and sent out requests for 'address updates.' They
believe that signing it means you are making a contract with them and
that they are entitled to a vrey large fee. They've got a new tactic,
and have recently referred one WOMEX delegate who signed in the past
to a collection agency. Please be careful.

All our contracts and forms are available online, and commitments are
made with WOMEX only via online or downloaded forms. Don't sign
anything else. And if you aren't sure, write to us for confirmation.

Best regards from your WOMEX team in Berlin.
